Fantastic piece, his eyes are old but still alert.
ReplyDeleteYou are very kind Cathy.
DeleteGreat to see a step by step. Fabulous portrait :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra.
DeleteThose eyes are amazing! Love seeing the steps.
ReplyDeleteHave to start with the eyes, if those go wrong then it's all downhill.
DeleteIt's so nice to see process/progress. What a wonderful old face...beautifully drawn.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth.
DeleteI think this is one of my favorite pieces....so much wisdom in those eyes. And I always love to see how your sketches evolve. Brava!
ReplyDeleteThanks. It'll be available as a print from FineArtAmerica soon... although the original is available at the moment. :)
DeleteThis is wonderful Sue... I can't imagine starting there with the eyes, but I have seen one other amazing artist start that way and sort of work out.
ReplyDeleteWOW... I am just learning about Instagram... Think I'd like to try it.... thanks for the idea memory jog...
Also... Next year I expect to see your work in the Jerwood Drawing Prize list... Okay??
Jerwood prize list??? - I am so flattered Marian! I'm not eligible whilst I don't live in UK, but who knows where I'll be next year.
DeleteA wonderful drawing of a face filled with character. Excellent work as always.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous drawing. I like the simplicity of your approach. The eyes speak volumes and your rendering of the texture of his skin is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteWow, such a delicately drawn piece and yet his face is full of his long life and of wisdom too. I was interested that you start with the eyes too, but aren't they supposed to be the mirrors of our souls? Lovely work Sue :)
ReplyDeleteHe's SPECTACULAR!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful face--he has a lot of character and your drawing communicates it.
