Artist profile

Sue Pownall is a nomadic artist travelling
the world for inspiration.

Originally from the UK and currently based in Oman, I'm an artist travelling extensively for inspiration. To date, some of the biggest influence has come from Cuba, Sudan, and Oman.

My drawings reflect my love of recording details; the objects, buildings, and people that make a place special. Primarily, I portray the essence of my surroundings in realistic pen and ink drawings.

Also, I work as a book and magazine illustrator. For example, I produced the cover illustration and section drawings for the novel True Vines by Diana Strinati Baur.

Finally, I'm an urban sketcher, who organises sketching events in Muscat, and my sketchbook is my constant companion.

For me, it's important to create opportunities for others to share my love of art, which is why I arrange sketching events and give school talks. More importantly, I like to use my art and organisational skills to raise funds for charities, whether through my annual fundraiser or by donating work.

Member of Colchester Art Society since 2011.

Membership approved into Omani Society for Fine Arts 2012.
