A couple of sketches

Yesterday I went to the pool, which is not my favourite way to spend a day, but we are a bit limited here in Khartoum. To pass some time I drew some of the people in and around the pool. The guy on the lounge has a friend with the most amazing tattoo, but as he was looking my way I couldn't draw it. Maybe next week?
On Thursday, at work I drew this quick pencil sketch of a student.

  1. I wonder if the women know you are sketching them..

  2. I don't think so Marian, as they are taking a test when I draw them.

  3. I like to sketch when I'm stuck in a boring meeting :) Nice sketch, you've got some really nice drawings here, glad I've found your blog.

  4. Aren't we humans funny? We make great subjects for artists until we realize we are being drawn. Then we change for some reason. Hope you are doing well.

  5. I really like your sketches - All so different. I can draw but I struggle with loose and lively sketches - Somehow I just can't seem to let go! I figure the more I practice the easier it will come. I have a problem with sketching in public too, another hurdle I need to get over! Still, it's lovely to stumble across other peoples blogs and find some inspiration! I will be visiting again!

  6. Thank you Mrs H and Sandra for stopping by and leaving such lovely comments.

Terry you are right, but then if I draw someone who's aware I'm doing it, my drawing goes to pieces as I try too hard to get a likeness.

Sandra, I find with sketching in public that once I have started I am usually alright and forget the embarrassment as I concentrate, but starting can be difficult. I envy people who can do detailed precise sketches, I think it is a matter of accepting we have different styles.

  7. I think I am still trying to find my own style! I wouldn't be at all embarrased about sketching in public if I could sketch people as well as this. I think your faces are lovely. Thank you so much for visiting my own blog. As you could see, it is very new and it's lovely when somebody new stops by!
